Weld Inspector: Privacy Policy

Effective date: 4 October 2026. App: Weld Inspector (Android package pl.tomasz.weldinspector).

Short version: Weld Inspector does not have Android's permission to use the internet, so it cannot send anything anywhere. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party services, and we receive nothing from it. What you enter, photograph and record stays on your phone, in the app and, for photos, in the phone's gallery. Nothing leaves the phone unless you save or share a file yourself.

In this policy, "we" means Tomasz Software, the developer of Weld Inspector.

What we collect

Nothing. The app makes no network connections of any kind, so we never receive your records, your photos, usage statistics, crash reports or any identifier of you or your phone.

What the app keeps on your phone

The app keeps its data in its private storage on your phone, which other apps cannot read:

Camera and photos

The app has no camera permission. When you tap Take photo, it asks your phone's camera app to take the picture and saves the result with the record. It also saves a copy to your phone's gallery, in Pictures/WeldInspector, named after the weld number and the date, and a marked copy of such a photo goes there too. Other apps allowed to see your photos can see these copies, and they stay in the gallery when you uninstall Weld Inspector.

The app saves photos exactly as the camera app made them. If your camera app is set to record location in photos, that location is kept in the photo, in its gallery copy and in backups. Weld Inspector does not read or use it, and you can switch it off in your camera app.

A photo taken to read a weld's QR label is used only to read the code, and is deleted as soon as the code has been read. A picture you choose for that is only read.

On Android 9 and older, saving to the gallery needs the storage permission. Without it, photos are saved with the record only.

Microphone

The app records sound only after you tap the button to record a voice note and have allowed the microphone, for at most ten minutes per note. Recordings stay in the app's private storage. You can type notes without ever allowing the microphone.

Files you open in the app

Documents (PDF, JPEG and PNG), a weld register in CSV, a backup to restore and pictures of QR labels are chosen in Android's own file picker, which gives the app only the file you pick. Documents become attachments, copied into the app's private storage, and a register adds its welds to the project.

Files the app creates for you

PDF reports, CSV tables, full backups, weld register templates and QR labels are created only when you ask, and saved where you choose in Android's save dialog. After saving, you can share a file with an app you pick, such as email; from then on, that app and whoever receives the file handle it under their own terms. A full backup contains all of the app's data, including photos, voice notes, names and the change history, so keep it somewhere safe.

Device backup

The app opts out of Android's backup to your Google account and of device-to-device transfer, so Android copies none of its data to the cloud or to a new phone. A backup created in the app's Settings is the only way to move or recover the data.

Deleting data

Moving an entry to the archive hides it from lists and keeps it, with its history. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in your phone's settings, deletes everything the app keeps in its private storage, including the data from before a restore. Gallery copies of photos and files you saved outside the app stay until you delete them yourself.

Information about other people

Records can hold other people's names, welders' stamps and photos in which people appear. That information is entered by you, kept on your phone and shared only by you, under the rules of your employer or your project. We have no access to it.

Links

Settings, under About, can show a Support link to the developer's page on ko-fi.com. It opens in your browser, the app sends nothing with it, and Ko-fi's own privacy policy covers that visit.

Google Play

Google Play installs and updates the app under Google's own terms and privacy policy, which cover anything Google collects itself, such as crash reports from devices whose owners have allowed them. The app sends nothing to Google.

Permissions

The app requests these device permissions:

The app also declares pl.tomasz.weldinspector.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION, which the AndroidX library adds so that only the app itself can send messages to its own components. It gives no access to anything on your phone.

The app requests no internet, camera, location, contacts, phone, calendar or notification permissions, and it declares no advertising ID.

Children

Weld Inspector is a tool for professional weld inspectors and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy will be updated and the updated version published at this same location before the change takes effect.
